Classes will resume on Monday, December 1.

Roane County Schools November Board Meeting Highlights A big thank you to KES student Gram Serna-Griffis for proudly leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Gram is a 5th grader and was elected Mayor of BizTown during this year’s visit, an impressive accomplishment that reflects his leadership and character. Cindy Lockett and Corey Mashburn showcased the incredible opportunities available through our Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs. Their update highlighted the hands-on experiences, certifications, and real-world pathways that are preparing Roane County students for future careers. Roane County Schools is proud of our students and grateful for the educators who continue to expand opportunities across the district. Let’s keep celebrating growth, leadership, and innovation.

Midtown Education Center welcomed Army recruiters today as they met with our GAP students to discuss career pathways and opportunities in the military after graduation.

We appreciate the recruiters for taking the time to share valuable information and help our students explore their future options.

Students from the Construction programs at OSA and RHS traveled to Knoxville to compete in the Annual 2025 BXTN High School Construction Trades Competition. This event gives students real-world experience in high-demand trades and allows them to demonstrate the technical skills they’ve been building in class. We’re proud of their effort and representation of Roane County Schools!

📊 October Attendance Challenge Results – Strive for 95%!

October’s challenge is in the books! While no school reached the 95% goal, several schools achieved attendance at or above 90%. Great job! 👏

Now, it’s time for “No Skip November”! 🍂 The focus this month is on reducing unexcused absences. We’ll be recognizing the schools that show the biggest decrease in unexcused absences from October. Let’s keep the momentum going! 💪

🏗️ Hands-on Learning with a Purpose! Students from Larry Green’s class at Oliver Springs Academy built a brand-new storage building for the Roane County Schools Family Resource Center! This project provides much-needed extra storage space for donated items that help support families across our district. What an incredible way for students to apply their skills while giving back to the community! 👏

🔬💡 Closing Out Nuclear Career Week in Roane County! 💡🔬 Our students had incredible opportunities this week to explore the world of nuclear science and energy! Seniors from all five high schools attended the Nuclear Science Career Fair, where they connected with representatives from nuclear industries, postsecondary programs, and skilled trades. Students learned about the abundance of high-demand career paths available right here in Roane County! Meanwhile, Bowers Elementary 5th graders enjoyed an exciting trip to the Atomic Education Summit, hosted by the American Museum of Science and Energy Foundation, where they experienced hands-on activities that brought science and innovation to life. We’re proud to see our students discovering the powerful opportunities in STEM fields that continue to shape our community’s future!

October Board Meeting Highlights for Roane County Schools Students from Bowers Elementary proudly led the Pledge of Allegiance to open the meeting. We also welcomed our new Student Board Member, Kolton Mullins! Kolton was selected by his classmates at Harriman High School and is a valued member of the senior class. He is a dedicated cheerleader and student ambassador who has already received a college offer to continue cheering at the next level. Kolton aspires to become an educator and often volunteers at BES to gain valuable classroom experience. He is enrolled in multiple dual enrollment courses, demonstrating his strong commitment to academic excellence. Kolton consistently serves as a positive role model and an outstanding example for his peers. Additionally, Chief Deputy Tim Phillips presented the new Roane County Sheriff’s Department App, which will provide countywide information and include listings of the School Resource Officers (SROs) at each school within our district. Another great night celebrating student leadership, community partnerships, and progress in Roane County Schools!

This week, Roane County Schools joins the nation in celebrating Nuclear Science Week, a time to recognize the important role nuclear science plays in our everyday lives. Students and staff are exploring topics ranging from energy production and medical applications to environmental science and safety.

Through classroom activities, demonstrations, and discussions, students are learning how nuclear science contributes to our communities, from powering homes to advancing healthcare. Emphasis is placed on safety, innovation, and the critical thinking skills that help shape the future of science and technology.

Roane County Schools is proud to provide students with opportunities to engage with STEM subjects in meaningful ways. By celebrating Nuclear Science Week, we inspire curiosity, innovation, and a deeper understanding of the world around us.

🚌 Bus Safety Week – October 20 to 24, 2025 🚌

Roane County Schools is celebrating Bus Safety Week and honoring our everyday heroes, our bus drivers and transportation team. Safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Tips for a safe ride
Students: Stay seated, use the handrail, watch for the danger zone around the bus, and always follow the driver’s instructions
Seatbelts: If your bus has seatbelts, buckle up every time
Parents: Review bus rules with your children and arrive early at stops
Drivers: Always stop for buses with flashing red lights and extended stop arms
