American Education Week 2025 is from November 17–21, 2025, and is dedicated to celebrating and honoring public education and its community.
American Education Week was first celebrated in 1921, a joint effort between the National Education Association (NEA) and the American Legion to raise public awareness about the importance of education. It began at a time when nearly one in four children in the United States was not attending school. The goal was simple but powerful: to draw attention to the value of public education and to honor those who make it possible.
More than a century later, that mission continues. Today, American Education Week remains a nationwide celebration of the teachers, support professionals, families, and community partners who work together to ensure every child has access to a quality education.
This week, we join educators, students, families, and community partners across the country in honoring the vital role of education in shaping our future. At Roane County Schools, we are proud to celebrate:
• Our dedicated teachers and instructional staff, those who show up every day ready to inspire, challenge, and support our students
• Our students, rising to the occasion, asking great questions, doing great thinking, and growing in character and knowledge
• Our families and caregivers, your partnership, encouragement, and support at home make all the difference
• Our local community and industry partners, including businesses and higher education allies, for helping create real world opportunities, pathway connections, and bright futures for students
As we reflect on our collective journey, the theme is clear: education is more than grades. It is hope, equity, innovation, and community.
