Welcome to Special Education!

The Special Education Department offers services to students with learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, autism, sensory and physical disabilities, behavior disorders and giftedness for children 3 through 21 years of age.

Services are provided by licensed teachers, professional staff and by trained paraprofessionals.  In addition to student services the department also provides staff development for all Roane County educators, parent training, and area wide inter-agency collaborations.

Marti Sparks

I began my career in education teaching special education at Rockwood High School where I taught for 11 years.  I went on to work for the TN Department of Education as a Compliance Consultant monitoring special education programs for 7 years. In 2011 I returned home to Roane County Schools as the Assistant Principal at Rockwood High School until accepting the position of Special Education Supervisor in January 2017.

I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a major in Finance and went on to earn my Master's and Ed.S Degrees in Special Education from Tennessee Tech University while earning a second Master's in Instructional Leadership.
