Thoughts on Chapter 3

January 2nd, 2009

I thought chapter 3 brought out some good principals for improvement in the classroom.  Some areas Ithought were important were:

  • Work on time management - focus on the things that are most important.  Teachers are pulled in many directions, but must keep there sights set on the goals for student achievement.
  • Use programs, and textbooks, as a resource and not a cure0all.  We still have teachers who believe that the textbook or a new program is the answer for reaching all students.  Teachers must be dilligent in chosing the parts of these programs that fit the curriculum.
  • The same is true for technology.  The use of technology without a focus of the needed skills is a waste of time.
  • The most immmprtant part of the chapter for me was “Use Common Sense”.  A good lesson for all of us.

Dec 18th-Using the blog

December 18th, 2008

Hello! Our discussion this morning was great! I found it very productive and I so appreciate your willingness to share your triumphs and celebrations AND concerns and challenges. I would like to ask that you use this to talk about how your plans for taking information back to your schools go. Let us know how your teachers, principal, assistants, etc. respond to what you do!

I look forward to discussing pgs 58-94 (Core Understandings 1-10) on January 23rd.
